"I stumbled across this old church in 1991, pretty late in the afternoon with no one else around. It was mid-September, and I was a wide-eyed Florida artist who had borrowed a friend's truck, driving by myself and discovering Maine. I had come to Deer Isle that day, from my friend's home on Mt. Desert Island, to visit the town of Stonington and was a bit lost trying to find my way home. I remember being taken back by this amazing building. It stopped me in my tracks. The afternoon shadows were something I couldn't pass up, even though time was running short."
